Sony VAIO Laptops – VAIO S

The Sony VAIO S will soon be available in the United States. The VAIO S model is Sony’s answer to the MacBook Air and is designated as an “ultraportable.” That means that the 13.3 laptop is only 1 inch thick.

Inside you’re looking at a Sandy Bridge Core i5 or i7 processor coupled with AMD Radeon HD 6630 graphics sporting 1GB of VRAM. The Laptop also has a Blu-ray drive and various solid state drive configurations to choose from (meaning it won’t come cheap).

The magnesium/aluminum chassis weighs in at just under 4 pounds, making this machine incredibly light comparatively.

The optional extended cell battery (for which you will pay a pretty penny) will give this little performer up to 15 hours of life before it needs to make a date with an outlet. This little addition will actually recharge the integrated battery, which is a neat feature, but you have to wonder if they sacrificed performance with the standard battery for the sake of fashion.

And what might you expect to pay for all of this portable power? The base model starts at $979 and it only goes up from there. So if you want a powerful laptop but don’t like what Apple has to offer, the Sony VAIO S series might just be a viable alternative.

Hit up the Sony website for more info and a full spec’s sheet.
